CrossFit Open 19.5 workout, description and links

We all saw it coming, and with CrossFit Open 19.5 here it is: Thrusters and Chest-to-bar pull-ups. A lot of them. That means the CrossFit Open 2019 won’t see and Deadlifts – is this good or bad news for you? Drop your thoughts in the comments.

Workout 19.5

For time: 33-27-21-15-9
Thrusters
Chest-to-bar pull-ups

Time cap: 20 minutes

As always, here are the official workout standards:

Make sure to read the workout description PDF to get the details for each of the movements. The standard is unchanged from previous years, most importantly for the chest-to-bar pull-ups “Overhand, underhand or mixed grip are all permitted”.

If you spot a mistake or if you feel like one of the points need more clarification, make sure to get in contact.

CrossFit Open 19.4 workout, description and links

This week we see two high-skill movements in the CrossFit Open 19.4 workout again. This time it’s the snatch and bar muscle ups.

Workout 19.4

For total time:
3 rounds of:
  10 snatches
  12 bar-facing burpees
Then, rest 3 minutes before continuing with:
3 rounds of:
  10 bar muscle-ups
  12 bar-facing burpees

Time cap: 12 minutes

Here are the official workout standards:

Make sure to read the workout description PDF to get all the little details that changed for this years standards. Here are the most important ones:

  • If the athlete doesn’t complete the first couplet until after the 9-minute mark, their workout is over.
  • Power, squat and split snatches are all permitted, but in each instance the athlete’s feet must be brought back in line. This is not a ground-to-overhead any way.
  • The athlete jumps or steps back to lie on the ground. … the athlete can step or jump to their feet.
  • The athlete must jump over the barbell using a two-foot takeoff. Single-legged jumping or stepping over is not permitted … does not need to land with both feet at the same time.
  • The [muscle-up] rep is credited when the arms are fully locked out while the athlete is in the support position above the bar with the shoulders over or in front of the bar. Athletes must pass through some portion of a dip-to-lockout over the bar. Only the hands and no other part of the arm may touch the pull-up bar to assist the athlete in completing the rep.

If you spot a mistake or if you feel like one of the points need more clarification, make sure to get in contact.

Where to watch the CrossFit Open 19.4 announcement

Over the last 3 weeks of the CrossFit Open 2019 we could get some experience with the Open announcements and the various levels of streams available to all of us. The reaction online was mixed, to say the least, but at this point we all should just relax, appreciate what local affiliates try to put up for us and get to business with the Open workouts. But let’s be honest; we all want to know where to watch the CrossFit Open 19.4 announcement – so here is the list of known announcements:

As always, you can watch all the available streams at games.crossfit.com.

CrossFit Open 19.2 workout, description and links

This weeks CrossFit Open 19.2 workout is a repeat, but with a slight change. We saw this workout in 2016, but with a much tighter timecap to complete. Let’s take a look at the workout:

Workout 19.2

Beginning on an 8-minute clock, complete as many reps as possible of:
  25 toes-to-bars
  50 double-unders
  15 squat cleans, 135 lb.
  25 toes-to-bars
  50 double-unders
  13 squat cleans, 185 lb.
If completed before 8 minutes, add 4 minutes to the clock and proceed to:
  25 toes-to-bars
  50 double-unders
  11 squat cleans, 225 lb.
If completed before 12 minutes, add 4 minutes to the clock and proceed to:
  25 toes-to-bars
  50 double-unders
  9 squat cleans, 275 lb.
If completed before 16 minutes, add 4 minutes to the clock and proceed to:
  25 toes-to-bars
  50 double-unders
  7 squat cleans, 315 lb.

Stop at 20 minutes.

Here are a couple peculiarities for this workout:

In this workout, another person may assist the athlete in changing the plates on the barbell during the workout, or multiple barbells may be used.

Athletes may wrap tape around the pull-up bar or wear hand protection (gymnastics-style grips, gloves, etc.), but they may not tape the bar and wear hand protection. Overhand, underhand, or mixed grip are all permitted.

Here are the official workout standards:

After 19 reps are complete, the athlete will move to the rower and pull 19 calories.
