Who is going to the CrossFit Games 2019?
It’s easy to miss important updates of the CrossFit Open, the sanctional events and all the surrounding events that take place in the CrossFit Games season this year. To help you out and get a quick overview if your favorite athlete already reserved a spot to the CrossFit Games 2019, we will compile a list of individual men and women who already got an invite to the Games.
This page will be updated whenever a sanctioned event is complete or something else comes up.
If you spot a mistake or if you feel like one of the points need more clarification, make sure to get in contact.
First let’s talk about the winners of the sanctional events – or the fallback tickets that others got after everything settled down. Names marked cursive are fallback tickets, so the athlete didn’t win the sanctional event, but because of the National Champions or the Open Top 20 got a ticket to the Games anyway.

How to earn a spot to the CrossFit Games 2019?
The current season of the CrossFit Games is a bit chaotic and there is a lot going on over two dozen events. The official rulebook was released (download the PDF here) and we know the process how athletes can earn a spot. Here’s the short version how to get to the CrossFit Games 2019:
- Win your country in the CrossFit Open
- Top 20 worldwide in the CrossFit Open
- Age group online qualifier
- Win one of the official sanctional events
- 4 invites directly given by CrossFit HQ
There is a lot going on. If you want to make sure you don’t miss an important event, make sure to check out the CrossFit Games season schedule.
If you spot a mistake or if you feel like one of the points need more clarification, make sure to get in contact.
National champions
Once the leaderboard is set and citizenship has been verified, CrossFit Inc. will notify individual athletes that they have qualified for the Games.
Section 4.02 in the rulebook
This means that in May 2019 we will know the names of the national champions of each country participating in the Open. There is one caveat though: if a national champion declines, the spot will not be backfilled.
Top 20 worldwide in the Open
The video review process for individual athletes who finish in the top 20 overall worldwide after the Open will be completed no later than April 29, 2019, at 5:00 p.m. PT. … CrossFit Inc. will email the men and women in the top 20 overall worldwide
Section 4.03 in the rulebook
Again, in May 2019 we will know the names of 20 male and 20 female athletes going to the CrossFit Games. There are some caveat though:
- if an athlete is also a national champion or declines the invitation, the spot will be backfilled to the next athlete
- if the athlete already won a sanctional event, the spot will not be backfilled
Age group online qualifier
… the top 10 men and women in each age-group division (including teenage divisions) will qualify to compete at the Games …
Section 2.06 in the rulebook
Again, there is a backfill process: if any athlete in the top 10 declines the invite, the next athlete in the division will get the invite.
Invitation from Sanctional Events
In 2019, there will be 15 Sanctionals from which the top male and female athletes and teams* (from the elite or Rx’d division equivalent) may receive invitations to compete at the Games.
Section 4.04 in the rulebook
There is also a backfill process: in case the winner already has an invite to the CrossFit Games, the invite will go to the second-place athlete. If someone wins multiple sanctional events, the backfill process will follow the chronological sequence of the events.
Invitation by an at-large bid
CrossFit Inc. reserves the right to invite four individual athletes to compete at the Games. The means by which an athlete can earn one of the four at-large bids is solely up to CrossFit Inc.’s discretion.
Section 4.06 in the rulebook
This is basically the wildcard for HQ to invite any individual they seem fit. It might come in handy if a fan favorite somehow misses to qualify for a spot or maybe for some high profile athlete from other sports to get a chance to compete in the CrossFit Games.
If you spot a mistake or if you feel like one of the points need more clarification, make sure to get in contact.

From Fittest in Cape Town instagram
Best bet to get in depth info will still be through our social media channels and our wrap ups at the end of each day.
FiCT2019 Broadcasting.
There has been a lot of request for info in regards of how to “view” our event and here is the basic breakdown:
There will be a SIMPLE live feed on our webpage running for most of the events and heats.
This live feed will NOT have a live commentary at all times but rather give an overview of what is happening in the arenas.
For more detailed viewing and to follow what is happening during the competition we recommend to follow our social media channels where we will keep live updates, photos, videos and more cool info coming on a regular basis!

FiCT has never been a “live broadcast event” before so we trust that you see our efforts to give the community as much insight to what’s going on as possible as positive. 😎
